Have you been eyeing that large piece of art for your living room wall, but the price makes it a non-starter? Don’t give up! There are creative ways to add large-scale art to your home without breaking the bank. Large-scale art makes a statement in your home and doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
Doing artwork yourself can be a fun and cost-effective way to add large-scale art pieces to your home. If I can do it, you can do it. I cannot even draw a stick figure (for real), but I made a couple of large-scale art pieces for my home that I get tons of compliments on. I created the 16×20 artwork on my mantel (see photo), which makes me happy every time I look at it.
I am working on a “how to” on DIY art but in the meantime, here are some links from other DIYers that inspired me to try to do my art. I was inspired by large-scale art tutorials at Making Home Base, Francois et Moi and Chris Loves Julia. By creating DIY art, you have artwork that fits seamlessly with your existing home decor style.
Posters are not just for college dorm rooms. There are tons of posters available that are large and beautiful. In addition, posters are priced reasonably. Etsy store The World Gallery has tons of unique posters for oversize art. The William Morris Floral Bird print is lively but not over the top. I adore the Go Poster Store, an eclectic Etsy store in Edinburgh, United Kingdom. I have a Valencia Orange poster saved in my favorites to buy soon.
I’m a big believer in decorating your home with items that have personal meaning or make you happy. Santa Fe, New Mexico, is one of my happy places because I have happy memories of visiting with my family. For years I had a 1999 Santa Fe Opera poster in my home, reminding me of many good times. These posters cost $20, so you can’t beat the price.
Adding large-scale art pieces to your home doesn’t have to break the bank. Whether you DIY oversize art or go the poster route, plenty of affordable options exist.
